Leather jackets and motorbikes are a pairing forged in the fires of hell. You simply can’t have one without the other - It’s almost an unwritten rule of the road. So we turned to Asia for a new, exclusive collaboration which adds some Japanese sensibilities to our iconic Mutt style.
Mutt Japan have crafted a set of two super-limited edition, classically designed leather jackets that are made for the ride. As with everything we do, the devil is in the detail. Combine this with a traditional Japanese sense of precision, you really will need a fine-tooth comb to spot everything that’s going on.
Let’s start with The Mutt Bolt Thrower Leather Jacket. A striking name for a striking garment. It’s an iconic centre-opening leather jacket that works both on the road and as a casual jacket. This simple and traditional get-up is a classic British style loved by Ton-Up Boys and Rockers. That standard cut-back yoke with a single horizontal seam is perfect for decoration, painting and studding the name of your band or bike.
Staying true to a familiar ‘50s silhouette, all the correct construction details have been followed to ensure that authentic shape. The corner drop on the collar and the single stitch around the edge is simple yet eye-catching British styling, with the parts cut, switched and turned to create a period correct shape. From the switched hem on the back body to the cuff zips and internal wallet pocket, this is a garment made precisely to sleek, vintage specifications.
Then there’s the Mutt Hellion Leather Jacket. An asymmetric fastening jacket, based on a 1970s style featuring a short stand collar, plus diamond stitch panels on the shoulders and elbows. Complete with buckle adjusters to help create that authentic silhouette, there’s exceptional detail tied into this jacket.
Detailed with a chunky full front zip with vintage style tape, puller and 2-zip closure front pocket finished off with ball and chain pullers for good measure. Vintage details such as the impact pads with reinforced double stitching along with the pocket positioning and dimensions ensure the quality and finish are well and truly up to scratch.
Limited to just 200 pieces, both jackets are a one shot only production.
LEATHER | The average leather thickness is 1.2mm, the finest cowhide with a solid thickness and suppleness that allows for natural ageing, the proper way.
LINING | Both styles adopted the jade colour seen in vintage jackets. With embossed Mutt logo in black leather.
INNER SLEEVE / FRONT BACK | Single piece without twisting.
TRIANGULAR STITCHING ON THE EDGE OF THE POCKET | Extra reinforced Stitching, as found on the best vintage jackets.
ZIPPER | Closure using a Japanese-made 81CW Zipper to invoke a vintage feel. The zipper stopper uses the “U-shaped stop” (C stopper) with additional ball and chain detailing on pocket zips.
ZIPPER TAPE | Faded vintage-feel cotton tape used to mimic the sun-worn zippers seen in classic leather jackets.
BUCKLE | Authentic strap and buckle used for the rear fastenings to pay homage to the luggage bags from the time. Made in the UK.
ERGONOMICS | As a feature of the classic British jacket, there are no action pleats on the back. Therefore, the sleeves are set to swing forward with extra room in the back to allow ease of movement.
SILHOUETTE | Articulated sleeves to enhance the silhouette of the jacket when hung and stance when riding.
