They say never meet your heroes. Forget that. If all heroes are as interesting and just down right friendly as Gary Numan, then you really should meet them all. As many times as you can.
It’s not every day you get the opportunity to meet a bona-fide music legend. So, when we recently got the chance to meet up with electro-rock god (and brand hero) Gary Numan, we didn’t need convincing.
We caught up with Gary in the early days of a UK and European tour, where he is showcasing songs from his most recent album ‘Intruder’, along with classics from his extensive and iconic back catalogue. And when we say extensive and iconic, we really mean it. Gary has a pedigree stretching right back to his early days as a synth rock pioneer, with a huge and lasting influence that has shaped the musical landscape ever since. Gary’s futuristic sound and image still has the same relevance today as it did when he first started making music, with his dystopian, post-apocalyptic themes possibly being even more in tune with the zeitgeist today than they were at the start of his long-running career.
Gary has a love of motorcycles that stretches way back, but admits that he hasn’t ridden for a while. So, in a bid to rekindle the passion and inspire him to get back on two wheels, we created a unique Intruder version of our 250cc Sabbath and met up with him to talk about all things bikes and music. The results of that conversation will feature in a future issue of our MMM magazine. Needless to say, some interesting stories were told. We’re also pretty sure that plan to get Gary back on a bike was a solid one…
They say never meet your heroes. Fuck that. If all heroes are as interesting and just down right friendly as Gary Numan, then you really should meet them all. As many times as you can.
Check out some shots of the day, including the custom Intruder Sabbath and Gary’s original minimoog. All hail the synth!
Keep your eyes peeled for Issue 003 of Mutt Motorcycles Magazine at the end of this year for even more Gary Numan.
