If you’ve been following us for a lil while, you’ll know that back in February we had up-and-coming punk icons Wargasm over at HQ to be part of the Carve Your Own Path blog (you can read their chapter of the blog here). With their whole entourage getting in on the action, Sam Matlock & Milkie Way (aka Rachel Hastings) got a taste for Mutt life after having a spin round our car park and posing on a 125cc Sabbath. Lucky for us, it seems they just can’t stay away as on September 23rd they returned to the dog house in an attempt to earn their CBT.

After leaving their homes at 7am and doing the gruelling 3 hour drive, they reached us full of excitement (despite the relentless rain) and ready to learn. Unfortunately, Sam wasn’t feeling his best so he had to take a rain check—yes, we do see the irony in this—but that wasn’t going to stop Milkie, Crilly & Luke from giving it their best efforts. Speaking of the rain; our ORMT instructors Jake and Jason didn’t let a little wet weather get in the way of a solid training day.

Adapting like pros, they shifted elements A and B of the day indoors, transforming our coffee shop and showroom into makeshift classrooms. The hope was that by the time they finished the theory and dry run-throughs, the skies would clear and they could hit the tarmac for the biking basics. Spoiler: the rain didn’t care for that plan and continued for the full day. That didn’t stop our three piece however—who, now fully suited & booted—were ready to get their bums on motorcycle seats.

Once out in the wet, the trio took to their motorcycles like ducks to water (if you’ll pardon the pun) and, despite the downpour, they sped through the necessary training, even managing to make up for lost time and showing real dedication to learning the ropes. However, the state of Birmingham roads after having 2 months worth of rain in 1 day, paired with some slight hesitation from our riders, quickly took the planned road ride off the cards. All was not lost for Crilly and Luke though, as they managed a quick ride-round a nearby industrial estate with Jake. Milkie, however, chose to warm up and recharge in the comfort of our coffee shop.

Despite the relentless weather, the day was relatively successful. Filled with plenty of laughs and progress; the whole team stayed light-hearted and focused, keeping the spirit alive even as the rain threatened to wash the day away. Fingers crossed, Wargasm (with Sam included) will be back soon to complete their CBT adventure.
