Dirt Quake

Dirt Quake V - The worlds most Wacky... Go fast, Turn Left race!

Dirt Quake is a summer dirt track racing festival right here in the UK, with a completely different attitude to other racing events. Organised by our friends at Sideburn Magazine Dirt Quake is a two day event, with Pro DTRA racing on the Friday, and the Dirt Quake event on the Saturday. And we can tell you, there is a great party in between the two!

Dirt Quake offers the unique opportunity for riders of all experience to have the chance to compete in a professional racing environment, on a world class dirt track, without the hassle or expense normally associated with motorcycle racing. To race at Dirt Quake you only need two things: A bike that “Looks road legal” and a days race license, which will cost you a couple of quid, and then you’re ready to hit the dirt.

All sorts of bikes turn up to race in the various different racing classes, ranging from “Chopper Class” to “Inappropriate Road Bikes”, and those bikes are very inappropriate indeed. Some racers dress themselves and their bikes up in colourful costumes for the racing. Super Mario Bro’s, The Simpsons… even a giant yellow chicken can all be found racing full throttle against each other. It actually looks more like something from Wacky Racers on speed, than a serious racing competition.

Guy Martin himself is a regular at Dirt Quake, being a featured column writer for Sideburn Magazine, he takes to the dirt each year competing in the Chopper class. Krazy Horse built this years chopper for him, and as you can see there aren’t many people who would be able ride that for even one lap. Let alone finish second place overall in the class.

Dirt Quake is one of those truly unspoiled by "The Man" events, without too much health and safety, and the main stream putting their hand in and taking away the best bits. Not only is it the electrifying excitement that only racing provides, but also the crazy intense fun that can only be had with a care free attitude and a sense of camaraderie that brings everyone together for the same reason.

Next year we will definitely be signing up to race. See you on the starting line!

Go Fast. Turn Left.
